On this multi-day tour from New York, explore two of America’s historically significant cities, Philadelphia and Washington DC, and get an exclusive look at a unique culture in Amish country.
Day 1:
Depart Grand Central Station in New York City and head south through New Jersey to the City of Brotherly Love – Philadelphia. Drive along Benjamin Franklin Parkway and Elfert Alley (one of the oldest inhabited streets in America). Disembark the coach or van in Philadelphia’s historical district and see the Liberty Bell, the Constitution Hall, Constitution Square and other historically significant sites.
From Philadelphia, head south through Delaware and Maryland to Capitol Hill in Washington DC. From here, drive past the White House, Capitol Building and Senate buildings. Spend the rest of your day exploring the Air and Space Museum and the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, the Korean War Veterans Memorial and the Vietnam War Veterans Memorial.
Spend the night at a 3-star hotel, Howard Johnson Cheverly, right outside of Washington DC in Maryland.
Day 2:
See the famous Changing of the Guards ceremony at the Arlington Cemetery, a military cemetery created during the Civil War to honor more than 400,000 lost American soldiers. From the Arlington Cemetery, head to the US Mint and see how money is created.
Moving on from the hustle and bustle of city life, your next stop is at the quiet town of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Here, you’ll have the chance to experience Amish country at its fullest. See what it’s like to live without electricity, running water and telephones. You’ll even get to ride in a horse-drawn carriage! Afterwards, browse handmade Amish arts, crafts and products.
You’ll arrive back at Grand Central Station in New York City by the evening.
